Research and Development Task - The SouthBank Centre

Research and Development Task

The SouthBank Centre is a well known landmark in London, I chose to do my R&D task on this particular place because I live in this city and am familiar with this place. I compiled all my research into one presentation as you can see above. I wasn't that familiar with the SouthBank Centre even though I lived in that particular city so I had to do an extensive amount of research to understand what goes on at the SouthBank Centre. The first time I visited SouthBank was in the summer of 2013, they had their neighbourhood festival on throughout summer from june till september, and there were fake beaches, allotments, kids play area and other family friendly things to do. I first heard about this festival when I googled what to do in London over the summer, and the SouthBank popped up. When i went to visit the place it seemed very cluttered and the place itself wasn't mapped out well, I didn't know where certain things were, so I was basically walking around until I found something that caught my eye. Thinking about how badly mapped out the area was, I started to think about how I could improve this for other tourists and visitors from London. When I went there, I found that there weren't any maps around for people to follow let alone see where they were. In relation to digital media I began to think about how I could create a 'map' that the audience were able to interact with. I thought about creating a aimplified map and having them around the area, however the audience wouldn't be able to interact with them in a digital way, so I thought about creating a virtual map, where passers by were able to see the map on a screen or mapped onto a background and they would be able to click certain buildings and find out how to get there and see where they are. I would also incorporate QR codes for them audience to bring up a map on their smartphones which they could use to refer to when a virtual map isn't nearby.
