Similar apps available now

The university of Oxford has launched its own official Oxford University: The official Guide app.

The app has many features, that facilitate not only the students but can be useful to the public when staying in and around Oxford it self. There are various functions such as:
As we can see at the top of the screen shot the weather is shown to us on that particular day and a small fact of history is also given to us. These can be seen as extras rather than helping the students in their university life, however to new students could be as helpful as their timetables. We can also see in this screen shot that each activity for the day is set out to view easily and a snippet of information is given with this. At the moment I feel this app is more geared towards encouraging students to get involved with the uni outside of study.
The toolbar at the bottom allows for easy access in between work related browsing and leisure on/off campus. Oxford is a big university and has many collages, the 'Near me' tab allows students to find the various collages and navigate using the map option, or simply learn a bit about the area and when to visit it.

Competitor Analysis

Many other universities use different softwares for students to interact with during the course of their degree. They all do similar things, such as viewing timetables, allowing students to see their different module pages, updates and their university email.
Here are some examples of existing apps for university students:
This is a screenshot of the new App made for London School of Economics university. As we can see it has adopted the new operating software for Apple iOS 7, at first glance the homepage looks very appealing and easy to navigate through. The main tab on the homepage is the timetable link, which is very useful and I think this would be ideal for every student. The tabs at the bottom also make it easy to get to the other facilities this App gives us.
Moodle can be used as a learning management system, it is used throughout various universities, allowing students to access their timetables, they can submit their assignments using this software and view updates or announcements from the university.
